Schmidt Consulting Group Group provided design services for the development of a new Chemical Pharmacy Building within the Avionics Complex at Robins AFB.  The pre-engineered metal building, used to distribute paint and solvents, includes a lobby, material transfer area, toilet room, and separate ordinary hazard and high hazard storage areas.  Services included programming, concept design, cost estimates and development of the RFP.  The team conducted interviews with Base and User representatives during programming.

MECHANICAL

The mechanical design includes HVAC systems meeting the latest industry standards, including the requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2007 and compliance with EPACT 2005.  Separate systems were specified for the high hazard area, the shipping and receiving area and the Office/Lobby/Transfer area.  Commissioning procedures were included.  New plumbing systems for sanitary drainage and domestic water service were included. The fire protection system is a new automatic wet pipe sprinkler system, with all high hazard storage protected as HC-3 and other areas protected as HC-1.

ELECTRICAL

The electrical design includes a new 480/277 volt, three phase, 4 wire panel; interior and exterior lighting and controls; and lightening protection.  Four data/telephone outlets and a complete, non-addressable manual and automatic Fire Alarm System (MNS) were specified.

STRUCTURAL

Structural design includes shallow foundations, structural steel moment frames and portal frames, straight columns, reinforced concrete spread footings and grade beams. The Type II B building includes 26 gauge metal wall panels, a standing seam metal roof with a 20-year warranty and an exterior overhead coiling door.  The High Hazard area, separated from the rest of the building by 2-hour rated wall construction, has explosion resistant fixtures and blow out panels.
