MECHANICAL / PLUMBING

HVAC Design

Mechanical systems include building cooling and heating, ventilation, air distribution, and controls.  Commissioning services were also provided.  The chilled water is provided by the existing campus chilled water distribution loop.  One condensing, natural gas-fired boiler provides heating hot water.   Variable air volume air handing units and a DDC control system were used.

Plumbing design included water conservation fixtures for the restrooms and break room, and piping systems for waste, potable water and natural gas.

STRUCTURAL

The structural system for Lamar studio addition for the Pensacola State College consists of a structural steel braced frame supported on shallow foundations.  The roof is a metal deck diaphragm on open web structural steel joists.  In the center of the structure a wide flange and double angle steel truss clear spans approximately 55 feet to allow for uninterrupted auditorium and gallery space.  The existing art facility has unique architectural spaces and shapes.  The addition is designed to emulate the existing structure; therefore the geometry is complex.  Three dimensional drawing and analysis were used to achieve the architectural vision while providing for an economical structure.
