Since 1987, Schmidt Consulting Group, Inc. has specialized in educational facilities projects and enjoys ongoing working relationships and continuing contracts with numerous universities, junior colleges, and school districts in the southeast United States. Santa Rosa County is one of those school districts that our firm has had the privilege to exclusively serve for 17 years.

Santa Rosa County is located in the Northwest region of Florida, positioned between Okaloosa County to the east and Escambia County to the west. The County has a population of over 144,561 and is steadily growing. In 2006, the County was ranked the second fastest growing county in Florida, and number 77 in the entire nation.

There are over 25,000 students enrolled in grades K-12 in the district. In 2006, 74% of Santa Rosa County students scored above a Level 3 on the FCAT examination in the category of Mathematics. This rating landed Santa Rosa County in the second place position for the category in the state, tied with Brevard County. In the same year, 70% of Santa Rosa County students scored above a level 3 rating in reading. Again, Santa Rosa County was tied at the second place position in the state for this category, alongside Okaloosa County.

The Santa Rosa County School District consists of 16 elementary schools, seven middle schools, six high schools, and three specialty schools. For 17 years, Schmidt Consulting Group, Inc. has served exclusively as the district's engineer. In this time we have provided design services for over 200 renovation/addition projects, as well as design for nine new schools.

John S. "Steve" Ratliff served as the Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services for the School District. In this role, he supervised facilities planning and construction, building maintenance, school food service, student transportation, purchasing, custodial services, warehousing, property control, and emergency preparedness.
