The Mobile Infirmary Medical Center is the largest non-governmental, not-for-profit hospital in Alabama. With more than 30 operating rooms in service, the Infirmary is one of the leading hospitals in the state in the number of procedures performed each year.
Schmidt Consulting Group, Inc. provided an engineering report and life cycle cost estimate for energy-saving modifications to the central chiller plant at the Infirmary which resulted in an annual energy savings of more than $130,000.
By analyzing the existing chilled water production and distribution system, we designed modifications that will allow the plant operation to be fully automated. Our study responded to the incremental growth of the facility and developed a plan to organize the plant into a system with five chillers and primary chilled water pumps on the primary loop and six variable-volume pump sets serving the secondary loops.
