The University of West Florida is located on 1,600 acres of nature preserve in Pensacola. The beauty of the campus attracts students from all over the world.

UWF formed a unique relationship with the nation of Japan in 1987 and has since added classes devoted to the Japanese language and culture to its curriculum. The University decided to strengthen its seventeen year dedication to Japanese studies by building a center for its international students.

The Japan House and International Center opened its doors on June 17, 2004. The dedication gained national exposure by welcoming the Consul General Ko Kodeira and Vice Consul Reiko Kitatochi of the Consulate-General of Japan.

The building consists of not only a classroom, conference room, and administration area, but an authentic tatami room, (a Japanese tea room), and viewing garden. The project was featured in the Winter 2004 edition of Florida | Caribbean Architect Magazine.

Schmidt Consulting Group, Inc. designed the Mechanical, Plumbing, Voice and Data Structured Cabling, Television, and Audio-Visual systems for the project. We worked closely with the University to ensure that their expectations were met.
